Father in prison
A difficult subject, the incarceration of a loved one, is told by author, Jacqueline Woodson. Although fiction, it is based on a real event from her family. The illustrator, James E. Ransome, reveals in the postscript, that he, too, has a family member in jail. Brilliantly colored acrylic paitings show a grandmother and granddaughter preparing, for their monthly bus trip upstate to visit the little girl's father. Bursting with unconditional love and hope for the day when "Daddy comes home again", this title should find a place in your school library.
