African-American children's books and true-to-life multicultural children's books about families around the world are our focus. Each multicultural children's book is carefully chosen by an experienced teacher for its historical and educational value. The multicultural children's books reflect the cultural richness of the Asian, Native-American, Caribbean, African, Hispanic, African-American, and European-American communities. In addition, this collection includes early childhood books about basic concepts, nature and science, and special issues like childhood fears, divorce, death and disabilities.

Many schools have a wealth of fairy and animal tales and books with fictitous characters, but a dearth of true stories about people of color.
